Hi, I'm Lori Mortimore

As a Doula, I am dedicated to supporting you in having a positive, empowered birth experience! From answering questions and preparing for birth and postpartum during pregnancy, to supporting you hands on throughout your labor and birth experience, to helping you navigate those tender early days postpartum, my passion is supporting birthing people.

I’ve always had a passion for helping others, having started out as a middle school science teacher. I love helping people learn and reach their fullest potential. My experience teaching has given me insights into how to connect with others quickly and tailor my assistance to the needs of diverse groups of people. During my own experience being pregnant my interest in pregnancy and birth developed into a true passion. Having a small for gestational age baby with some early feeding difficulties inspired me to become a doula so I can help and support others as they navigate the wonderful and sometimes difficult transition into parenthood. I trained as a doula through a DONA approved workshop, have completed basic lactation training, and have been attending births since 2023.
When not working with new families, I enjoy spending time outside with my own husband, son, and dog. I love hiking, baking, knitting, and reading. As a (nearly) lifelong resident of Anacortes, I really value our wonderful community here in Northwestern Washington. I have a BS in Biology and a Masters in Teaching Science, so I love science and value an evidence based approach to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Testimonials

We were very fortunate to have Lori Mortimore as a birth doula. My daughter’s birthing experience was definitely improved by her knowledge, tools, care and confidence. Lori was compassionate, firm, and interacted skillfully with staff as well as family members. In sum, she was really there for us, for the duration; her presence added greatly to the birthing story of my new grandson.  Highly recommend!

I was so lucky to have Lori Mortimore as my doula for the birth of my son. He arrived one month early when my membrane prematurely ruptured. Lori was so knowledgeable and well-educated. She helped explain all of my options. My husband and I had planned an out of hospital birth in our local birth center. We were no longer able to do this and had to go to the hospital. It was scary to transition from a low-risk birth with a midwife I had know for five years to a hospital setting where I knew no one.

Lori was so encouraging, comforting and helped us navigate our new situation. She showed me how to advocate for myself with these doctors and was an absolute godsend. Lori’s suggestions during my labor helped to ease my pain and make the process so much more pleasant. When my son was born, he required life support immediately.

Lori stayed with me while my husband had to go to the NICU with our son. I can’t imagine going through that without her. She was so reassuring and it made all of the difference! If you have any desire to make your birth easier and feel supported during the entire process, book Lori!

Lori was and always will be such a light during my pregnancy and labor. And even after. I couldn’t imagine doing it without her and my fiancé can say the same. She moves with such love for what she does and really is so helpful. This was my first pregnancy and it was long hours; she helped me through every step of the way and always made me feel like I could do it, even when I really thought I couldn’t. It was so nice to have her as someone who was going to be there for me and my fiancé that wasn’t a midwife, doctor orhonestly family in high stress situations. She is so caring and I got to know her so well in the days we spent together. Lori will always be apart of our family and I couldn’t recommend her enough. I hired her later in my pregnancy, even though I felt like I was able to go with the flow, you can never be over prepared with a positive human and it was the best decision I’ve made.

Lori helped transform our birth story from a scary and daunting experience into a joyful and memorable birth. Lori was there to help us work through problems before, during, and after the birth, and each of these stages were easier with Lori. We relied on Lori heavily as the first line of defense against our questions and concerns, and she always had answers or at least referrals to those who may have answers. She also was a wealth of emotional support as we traversed a very long and difficult active labor. Lori also helped us work through lactation issues which were missed by other people in our support team. She went above and beyond by making herself avilable to us.
